EnviroMarine
EnviroMarine is Brunel Coatings’ flagship underwater protection system, engineered to outperform traditional antifouling coatings, and trusted by vessel owners and operators worldwide for its unmatched longevity, hydrodynamic performance, and environmental integrity. With a 100% solids formulation and no VOCs, biocides, or solvents, EnviroMarine delivers smooth, inert, and long-lasting protection for hulls operating in all conditions.
Tested and approved for a 10-year drydock interval, proven for over two decades in real-world conditions, EnviroMarine sets a new benchmark for lifecycle performance and environmental responsibility.
EnviroMarine is the only coating of its kind to earn formal environmental certification from DNV. This recognition underscores the product’s unmatched commitment to safety, sustainability, and long-term performance.
This certification is not a marketing claim. It is an independently verified assurance that EnviroMarine delivers effective results without compromising the marine ecosystems it protects. In an industry where coatings are often judged by cost or cure time alone, Brunel sets a higher standard that includes full environmental responsibility across manufacturing, application, and operational use.
DNV’s evaluation covered the complete lifecycle of the product. It examined material composition, emissions, durability, and end-of-life impact. EnviroMarine met every requirement without exception.
For shipowners facing tighter environmental regulations, growing pressure from customers and investors, and the need to protect long-term value, this certification offers peace of mind and a competitive advantage.
Choosing EnviroMarine is not just about better coating performance. It is a strategic decision that aligns with global environmental expectations and prepares your fleet for the future.
EnviroMarine is designed to reduce drag, improve fuel economy, and maintain smoothness over time. Its nano-texture surface (under 200 nanometers) significantly outperforms traditional coatings, which degrade into rough surfaces within years.
Unlike antifouling systems that rely on shedding toxic layers, EnviroMarine maintains a hard, intact barrier that marine organisms cannot adhere to. The result is lower operating costs, higher vessel speed at reduced power, and cleaner hulls that require minimal maintenance.

Real-World Performance
The performance of EnviroMarine was first demonstrated through a carefully controlled trial in 2000, when it was applied to the forward and aft thirds of the M/V CP Prospect, a 225-meter container vessel. For comparison, the midsection of the ship was coated using a leading brand’s high-end antifouling system. EnviroMarine only requires two topcoats, totaling approximately 300 microns in dry film thickness. The leading brand's system needed two primers, two tie coats, and three finishing layers, with a total thickness exceeding 600 microns.
When the M/V CP Prospect dry docked in Gibraltar in 2006, the difference between the two coatings was clear. The antifouling-covered midsection had lost nearly 85 percent of its coating. Large patches were stripped down to bare steel. In contrast, the EnviroMarine-coated sections were completely intact. Film thickness was unchanged, adhesion was strong, and no signs of deterioration were found. Even the ice belt had not suffered damage. Only a small patch near the anchor zone required a minor touch-up.
Based on the inspection, the owner immediately chose to remove the antifouling system and apply EnviroMarine to the entire vessel.
This trial remains one of the clearest demonstrations of EnviroMarine’s long-term value. It proved not just the resilience of the coating, but its ability to outperform conventional alternatives in fuel efficiency, fouling resistance, and maintenance costs. Since that time, EnviroMarine has been adopted across a range of commercial and military vessels seeking long-term performance with reduced environmental impact.
Fuel Savings Backed by Science
Independent studies have shown that hull roughness contributes directly to fuel burn. While traditional coatings degrade to 600 microns or more, EnviroMarine maintains a surface roughness under 200 nanometers — over 3,000 times smoother than some conventional alternatives.
Estimates from class societies and propulsion efficiency experts show that roughness reductions of even 25 microns can lower fuel consumption by 1%. EnviroMarine's nano-smooth surface has been linked to reductions of 7–15% in fuel use, depending on trade and conditions.
